Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria

MAQASIDI: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum is committed to ensuring that authorship accurately reflects the intellectual contributions of individuals involved in the preparation and completion of a scholarly manuscript. The journal upholds the principles of transparency, accountability, fairness, and academic integrity in determining authorship.

1. Criteria for Authorship

To qualify as an author, an individual must have made a substantial scholarly contribution to the manuscript, such as:

  1. Contributing to the conception or design of the study, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of research data, sources, or materials.

  2. Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Approving the final version of the manuscript for publication.

  4. Agreeing to be accountable for the accuracy and integrity of their contributions and for helping address questions concerning the work as a whole.

All individuals listed as authors must satisfy the applicable authorship criteria. These criteria apply equally to research in Islamic law, normative legal studies, empirical legal research, socio-legal studies, and interdisciplinary scholarship.

2. Author Contributions and Accountability

All authors are expected to make meaningful intellectual contributions to the manuscript and to take responsibility for their respective roles. Where appropriate, the journal encourages authors to provide a clear statement describing each contributor's role, including conceptualization, methodology, investigation, formal analysis, writing, supervision, and project administration.

The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the editorial office on behalf of all co-authors, ensuring that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript and its final version, and confirming that the submission complies with the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies.

3. Order of Authorship

The order of authorship should be determined collectively by the authors based on their relative scholarly contributions and agreed responsibilities. The journal does not prescribe a universal order of authorship, as conventions may differ across disciplines and research methodologies.

All authors should agree on the author list and order before submission. Any proposed changes to the author list, including additions, removals, or changes in author order after submission, must be justified in writing and approved by all affected authors. The editorial office may request additional documentation before considering such changes.

4. Corresponding Author

Each manuscript must designate one corresponding author who serves as the primary contact with the journal throughout submission, peer review, publication, and any subsequent editorial inquiries.

The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors are informed of the submission, have approved the manuscript, and consent to its publication. The corresponding author must also disclose relevant conflicts of interest, funding sources, and other information required by the journal.

5. Contributors Who Do Not Qualify as Authors

Individuals who have contributed to a manuscript but do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately, with their consent. Such contributions may include administrative assistance, language editing, technical support, data collection assistance without substantial intellectual input, or general supervision that does not satisfy the authorship requirements.

Acknowledgment must not be used as a substitute for authorship when an individual's contribution meets the applicable criteria.

6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

MAQASIDI: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum does not accept the following practices:

  • Gift or honorary authorship: listing individuals who have not made a qualifying scholarly contribution.

  • Ghost authorship: omitting individuals who have made substantial contributions that warrant authorship.

  • Guest authorship: including individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility or prestige of a manuscript without qualifying contributions.

  • Unauthorized authorship changes: adding, removing, or rearranging authors without the required agreement.

  • Misrepresentation of contributions: providing false or misleading information about an author's role in the research or manuscript preparation.

Suspected authorship disputes or violations will be assessed by the editorial team in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance. Where necessary, the journal may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors or their affiliated institutions.

7. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including any material generated or assisted by AI tools. The use of AI tools must comply with the journal's applicable AI policy, including any disclosure requirements. Human contributors who satisfy the authorship criteria remain accountable for the submitted work.

8. Final Responsibility

By submitting a manuscript to MAQASIDI: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum, the corresponding author confirms that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria, have approved the submitted version, and agree to be accountable for their contributions. All authors are expected to cooperate with the editorial team in resolving questions concerning authorship, research integrity, or publication ethics.

The journal reserves the right to investigate suspected authorship misconduct and take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policies.
