Conflict of Interest

MAQASIDI: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum is committed to maintaining transparency, objectivity, and integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. All authors, editors, and reviewers are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could improperly influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their research, evaluation, or editorial decisions.

1. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relationships that may influence the research, interpretation of findings, or presentation of their manuscripts. Such conflicts may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial support, research grants, consultancy fees, honoraria, or other financial benefits.

  • Employment, professional affiliations, or institutional relationships that may affect the research.

  • Personal relationships, academic competition, or professional rivalry that could influence scholarly judgment.

  • Involvement in legal cases, policy initiatives, organizations, or institutions directly related to the subject of the manuscript.

  • Other interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the objectivity or credibility of the research.

Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest at the time of manuscript submission. If no conflicts exist, authors should include the following statement in their manuscript:

“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

The disclosure of a conflict of interest does not automatically disqualify a manuscript from consideration. The editorial team will assess the nature and significance of the disclosed interests and determine whether further clarification or appropriate measures are necessary.

2. Editors' Responsibilities

Editors must make editorial decisions based on the manuscript's academic merit, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and compliance with publication ethics standards, without inappropriate influence from personal, financial, institutional, or professional interests.

Editors who have a conflict of interest concerning a submitted manuscript must disclose it and withdraw from handling the manuscript or making related editorial decisions. This includes situations in which an editor is an author or co-author, has a close personal or professional relationship with an author, or has a direct interest in the research outcomes.

In such cases, the manuscript will be assigned to an independent editor who can manage the editorial process impartially.

3. Reviewers' Responsibilities

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could affect their ability to provide an objective and impartial assessment of a manuscript.

Reviewers should decline an invitation if they have a close personal or professional relationship with the authors, a direct competitive interest in the research, a financial interest in the findings, or any other circumstance that may compromise their impartiality.

Reviewers must promptly inform the editorial team of any relevant conflict of interest identified before or during the review process. The editor will determine whether the reviewer may proceed or should be replaced.

4. Funding Disclosure

Authors must clearly identify all sources of financial support for the research and manuscript preparation, including grant providers, institutional funding, and other relevant forms of sponsorship.

Where applicable, authors should explain the role of the funding organization in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and decision to submit the article for publication.

If the research received no specific financial support, authors should include the following statement:

“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”

5. Disclosure and Management of Conflicts of Interest

All disclosures must be made accurately and in good faith during manuscript submission. Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to notify the editorial office if a relevant conflict of interest emerges after submission or publication.

The journal will evaluate disclosed conflicts on a case-by-case basis and may take appropriate measures, including reassignment of editorial responsibilities, appointment of independent reviewers, requests for additional disclosures, or publication of a conflict-of-interest statement where necessary.

If an undisclosed conflict of interest is identified after publication, the journal will assess its potential impact on the integrity and reliability of the published article. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction in accordance with its Correction and Retraction Policy.

6. Editorial Independence

MAQASIDI: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum safeguards editorial independence and does not permit financial, political, institutional, personal, or commercial interests to improperly influence editorial decisions.

All parties involved in the publication process are expected to act transparently, responsibly, and ethically to protect the credibility of the journal and the integrity of the scholarly record.

Through this policy, MAQASIDI: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum seeks to ensure that all manuscripts are evaluated fairly and that potential conflicts of interest are managed transparently in accordance with recognized standards of scholarly publishing ethics.
