Abstract

Reading is a process intended to establish the link between the language of speech and written symbols, as it is the key through which any person enters the various fields of science, and perhaps one’s ignorance or weakness in reading led to his failure to receive science, and then his failure in life, in learning process reading needs a technique and a method so that a progressing of reading can be succed to the reader. As a writer got by Darul ‘Ulum Islamic Boarding School, that many of students less understanding about the text of Arabic and unable to understanding about main information in it, Therefore, they are need a special method to make them be easy in understanding Arabic texts, namely by using the SQ3R method. The aim of this research is to know effectiveness of using the SQ3R method to improve students’ ability in understanding Arabic texts. This research base on the Quasi Experimental method. The population is all student in class IV Darul Ulum. And while the sample is all student in class IV-a there are 25 students. The data come from the test (Pre-test and Post-test). The study results showed that; 1) The implementation of the SQ3R method at Darul ‘Ulum Islamic Boarding School was conducted in 5 steps, namely survey, question, read, recite, and review, 2) The Use of the SQ3R method improved students’ ability in understanding Arabic texts. It was shown by the result of the T-Test that is bigger than the result of the Table Test, it is acceptable.
