Very often the terms Al-taqyim (evaluation) and Al-taqyim (ranking) are interchangeable. When in fact the two terms are different from each other. As in this paper Al-taqyim in question is as an effective method in determining the development of the teaching-learning process. Al-taqyim can be understood as a continuous ranking process for students in order to improve the quality of their learning. At the same time, Al-taqyim can also be interpreted as an evaluation of teaching and learning activities based on student ratings that are known through the Al-taqyim (ranking) process. In addition, there are also other terms that have similarities with both namely al-ikhtibarat (examination) and al-qiyas (grading). This paper aims to present the study of understanding, roles, objectives and evaluation principles and compare them with the other three terms.
