This research examines the process of reinterpretation of Islam Wetu Telu and Waktu Lima amidst the currents of modernity in the Sasak community in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Wetu Telu is a syncretic practice that combines elements of Islam with local beliefs. Meanwhile, Waktu Lima represents a more celestial form of Islam, which has long been an integral part of the religious identity of the Sasak tribe. In facing the challenges of modernity, both streams have undergone a significant process of reinterpretation. This study investigates the historical roots of both concepts, analyzes the dynamics of change that occur, and explores the multidimensional implications of this reinterpretation process. This research employs a cultural anthropology and religious sociology literature study approach, revealing how the Sasak community negotiates between preserving tradition and adapting to the demands of modernity. The findings indicate that this process of reinterpretation has far-reaching impacts, not only on religious practices but also on the social, economic, political, and educational structures of the Sasak community. This phenomenon reflects the adaptive capacity of traditional societies in facing global changes while still maintaining the essence of their cultural identity. This study provides valuable insights into the dynamics of socio-religious change in the context of modernization and highlights the importance of understanding local nuances in studies of Islam and society.
